CD-20 (8") Pre-Waxed Cotton Wick
The CD-20 wick is among the largest in the CD series, designed for extremely large containers or pillar candles. Pre-waxed and 8″ long, it’s ready to tackle candles around 4.25″–4.5″ in diameter. This wick produces a very strong flame, perfect for achieving full melt pools in candles at the upper end of single-wick sizes (beyond this, candle makers often start considering double-wicking). If you have a hefty candle project, CD-20 might be the perfect fit.
-
Recommended Jar Diameter: Approximately 4.25″–4.5″ wide. This wick is recommended for extra-large candles such as giant jar candles or wide pillar candles that are almost five inches across. It’s basically one of the biggest single wicks you’d use before moving to multi-wick setups.
-
Maximum Jar Height: 8″ wick length can accommodate candles up to ~7″ tall. Whether it’s a large pillar mold or a giant jar, CD-20 has the length to reach and sustain an even burn throughout the candle’s height (with proper trimming).
-
Wax Compatibility: Engineered to work with both high-melt-point paraffin and natural waxes like soy. Even in a massive soy wax candle, CD-20 can help maintain a stable flame. Its ability to handle high fragrance loads in a lot of wax means your big candle can throw scent well while burning evenly.
-
Flame & Burn Performance: Burns with an extremely robust flame. You’ll get a big, radiant flame that generates the heat needed for a 4+ inch diameter melt pool. The wick will curl as it burns, which helps consume excess wick and keeps soot somewhat in check. Given the flame size, some mushrooming is normal, but CD wicks are known for their self-trimming qualities that minimize performance issues. Expect a vigorous but controlled burn that can make even very large candles melt uniformly.
Usage Instructions: Secure the CD-20 wick at the absolute center of your container or mold using a strong wick sticker. Centering is critical – with such a large flame, you want it burning right in the middle for safety and performance. Use a wick bar or holder to keep it straight while pouring your wax. Once the candle fully cools, trim the wick to 1/4″. Burn-testing a candle of this size is very important: observe the first burn to ensure the melt pool reaches the edges and the flame isn’t too high or producing excessive soot. If your candle is any wider than ~4.5″, you’ve likely hit the limit of one wick and should consider using two smaller wicks instead. With proper use and testing, CD-20 will deliver a powerful, even burn in your biggest single-wick candles.
Ready to Shine: When you’re ready to pour those giant candles, trust this bag of 100 CD-20 wicks to give you the performance you need. Go ahead and create that show-stopping candle – CD-20 wicks will help it burn bright, even, and beautiful!

I used the CD-12 for the first candles I made just because I noticed they had reviews. Then noticed I should be using the CD-20 for the size jars I use. Hope I don't get the black soot which can't be the soy wax I use. I love BA for all my soap and candle products!!
