Wooden Wick Booster 1/2″ x 5″

Clips Sold Separately

Intro: Our 1/2″ Wooden Wick Booster is designed to boost medium-sized flat wood wicks (around 1/2″ width). It’s a thin wood strip that you pair with your main wick to effectively double the burning power. The 1/2″ booster is ideal for candles about 3–3.5″ in diameter when a single wick isn’t achieving a full melt pool. By adding this booster, you get a stronger, more resilient flame that can handle stubborn wax formulas (like 100% soy, beeswax, or heavily fragranced candles). This booster wick greatly aids in capillary action – drawing more melted wax to feed the flame – which eliminates the need for multiple separate wicks in many cases. (Use only with flat wooden wicks; not meant to be used on its own.)

  • Flame Amplifier: The 1/2″ booster features a special thin wooden core that, when burning alongside your main wick, supplies extra fuel to the flame. This effectively “eliminates the need for double-wicking” in a separate manner, because you’ve created a dual-layer wick in one spot.

  • Recommended Use: Best used when your candle diameter is in the ~3″ to 3.5″ range and your main wick alone isn’t cutting it. For example, if you use a WW-3 (1/2″) wick in a 3.25″ soy candle and get poor melt or frequent extinguishing, adding this booster will likely fix that by increasing the burn strength.

  • Handles Heavy Loads: If your candle has a high fragrance load or lots of dye, those additives can suppress a flame. The booster helps counteract that – it works well in candles with heavy fragrance or color, ensuring they still burn properly.

  • Vertical, Steady Flame: Users often notice that a booster yields a more vertical flame (meaning it’s strong and straight-up, less flicker). This is beneficial for consistent heat distribution. You’ll see a vigorous but stable flame that melts wax evenly.

  • Pair with Medium Wicks: Simply match this booster with your 1/2″ main wick. The two wicks together should occupy the clip snugly. It’s cut to the same 5″ length as our standard wicks, so it lines up perfectly. Always use in the same clip as the main wick, side by side.

Usage Instructions:

  1. Dual Wick Setup: Take your 1/2″ flat wooden wick and the 1/2″ booster. Place them together into one metal wick clip (sold separately), so that you have essentially two layers of wood in one clip (also known as a “dual wood wick” configuration). Ensure both pieces are even at the bottom and held tightly by the clip – this alignment is key for them to burn in unison.

  2. Secure in Container: Center the clip at the container’s base and stick it down. The booster is thin, so it will sit flush against the main wick. You now have one combined wick unit ready to go.

  3. Add Wax: Pour your candle wax as usual. The wicks (main + booster) will remain upright; just be careful to pour gently so as not to dislodge them. Let the wax fully cure.

  4. Trim Both Wicks: Trim the top of the dual-wick assembly to ~1/8″ height before lighting. You can trim them together – treat it as one wider wick. Removing char from both ensures easy ignition.

  5. Burn & Observe: Light the main wick and the booster will ignite along with it, giving a robust flame. Watch how the flame is stronger and burns through any “tough spots” in the wax. Your melt pool should enlarge and deepen more quickly. Enjoy the improved performance! After burning, don’t forget to trim both wicks again for next time. If by chance the flame is a bit too high with the booster, you can trim shorter or use a slightly smaller main wick; boosters are powerful.

The 1/2″ booster wick is a game-changer for medium-large candles. It’s your insurance policy against weak flames in trickier waxes – ensuring your 3″-ish diameter candles have a robust, steady burn and great scent throw.
