Wooden Wick Booster 5/8″ x 5″

Clips Sold Separately

Intro: The 5/8″ Wooden Wick Booster is made for larger wood wicks (around 5/8″ width) and candles in the approximately 3.5–4.5″ diameter range. If you have a big candle that one wick struggles to fully melt, this booster can be the perfect assistant. It’s essentially a secondary strip that sits with your main wick to supply extra fuel and heat. This booster is highly recommended for large soy candles, palm wax candles, or any candle with a high melt-point wax in a wide container. By using the 5/8″ booster, you encourage a more complete burn – no more leftover “wax hang-up” on the sides of wide jars. It’s compatible only with flat wooden wicks, not cross or spiral wicks.

  • Boosts Large Wicks: Designed to pair with our WW-4 or similar 5/8″ main wicks. In big candles (up to ~4.5″ diameter), a single wick might not generate enough heat – this booster fixes that by effectively doubling the wick’s burning area.

  • Ideal Container Size: Suggested for use in candles about 4″ to 4.5″ wide. For instance, if you’re using a WW-5 (3/4″) wick in a 4.25″ soy candle and getting a shallow melt pool, try using a slightly smaller main wick with this 5/8″ booster to power it up. The combination can achieve what a lone wick couldn’t.

  • Handles Difficult Waxes: Excellent for candles made with beeswax, soy, or heavily dyed/scented paraffin in large jars. Those conditions often self-extinguish or tunnel with one wick – the booster wick’s inner core dramatically improves capillary action, sustaining a proper burn in such scenarios.

  • Steadier, Taller Flame: Expect a more vertical flame that’s strong and steady, thanks to the booster’s support. You’ll notice the flame doesn’t struggle or drown out, even toward the candle’s bottom, because the booster keeps feeding it wax.

  • Efficient & Cost-Effective: Rather than use two separate large wicks (which might require two clips and careful spacing), a single 5/8″ booster teamed with one wick in one clip gives you the effect of double wicks in a simpler setup. This can save time and components, while achieving an even burn.

Usage Instructions:

  1. Team Up Wicks: Take your primary 5/8″ flat wooden wick and the 5/8″ booster. Slide them together into one metal wick clip (sold separately). They should fit tightly; a bit of a push is okay. Ensure their bottoms align in the clip. Now you have a combined dual-layer wick assembly.

  2. Center and Secure: Stick the clip at the jar’s center bottom firmly (use a generous adhesive since this combo is a tad wider). Because these are larger wicks, double-check that the assembly stands straight up – adjust before the wax pour if needed.

  3. Wax Pouring: Pour in your melted wax at a moderate pace. The dual wicks will remain upright (the wood’s stiffness helps). If you’re working with a really wide opening, you might use a wick centering device just to be precise, but often it’s not needed. Let the candle cool and solidify completely.

  4. Trim Both Wicks: Cut the tops of the wicks so that about 1/8″ is exposed. Do this evenly so both the main wick and booster are the same height above the wax. Removing the charred wood from previous burns is important for easy lighting.

  5. Burn Observation: Light the wick (both pieces will burn together). You should immediately see a fuller flame. Monitor the first burn – you’ll likely get a complete wax pool reaching the edges within a few hours. The flame from the combo might be higher than a single wick, but it should remain stable. If it seems too high, you can extinguish and trim slightly. Otherwise, enjoy the improved performance! Each time, trim the dual wicks and relight. The booster ensures even the last bit of wax at the bottom gets used, without the flame dying out prematurely.

The 5/8″ booster is the secret to perfecting those big candles that normal wicks struggle with. It gives your candle the muscle to burn evenly, so you can confidently create large, richly-scented candles that burn all the way down.
